About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) addendum for Solicitation #140P6425Q0095, related to Pinhook Bog Management at Indiana Dunes National Park. The Q&A addresses two specific inquiries from potential bidders: first, details about site visit opportunities on Sunday, July 27 from 9-10am CT, with strict instructions that visitors must remain on the boardwalk and cannot interact with Rangers; second, clarification about vehicle access, where the contractor is informed that a UTV cannot use the narrow walking trail and must drop equipment/crew near the gated area before parking vehicles in the designated parking lot. The document provides precise guidance for potential contractors about site access and logistical constraints for the bog management project.

Question # Question Answer/Response

1.7/21/25 Would there be any way to set up a site visit for inspecting the work area? We were not able to make the site visit last week.

Access to the bog is restricted by a locked fence and gate. However, on Sundays throughout the summer, there are Rangers stationed at the bog allowing visitors to access the boardwalk onto the bog. On

Sunday July 27 the open house will be from 9am to 10am CT. Any potential bidders can take advantage of that opportunity to view the work site as it is open to the public.

However, they will absolutely have to remain on the boardwalk at all times. Potential bidders will be able to see the untreated area that will be worked under this contract.

That will be on the right side of the boardwalk when walking onto the bog. The left side and off of the far end of the boardwalk has been treated previously. It will be very obvious what has and has not been treated.

The Rangers who will be present are not in any way associated with this project and shall not be asked any questions about the project.

They will not be relied upon for accurate answers to any questions any bidders may have.

Bidders may also view the pictures off the site from the Scope of Work.

2.7/22/25 Is the contractor allowed to utilize the trail to the gated access area with an UTV? The UTV will not access the gated area, it would just be used along the trail for moving crew/herbicide to the gated area.

The trail from the parking lot to the gated area onto the bog is a very narrow single track walking path.

A UTV would not fit along most of the length of the trail, so it cannot be used. The contractor may elect to drop crew, herbicide, and equipment off at the roadway near the gated area, but vehicles will have to be then moved to the parking lot. Parking is not allowed off of the road near the boardwalk gate.
