About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) addendum for Solicitation #140P6425Q0052, a Gravel Overlay project for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (PIRO). The Q&A covers five key clarification points about the project, including confirmation that all roads, parking lots, boat ramp areas, and campsite driveways will receive a 4-inch gravel overlay. The National Park Service (NPS) specifically requires 21A stone and will not accept alternative stone types. The project has a projected magnitude of $250,000-$350,000, and truck access will be managed under traffic control with designated parking determined by the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). The Q&A also notes that the project requirement was initially calculated in cubic yards, and no specific conversion formula from yards to tons was provided.

Gravel Overlay – PIRO

Questions and Answers listed below:

QUESTIONS:

Question # Question Answer/Response

1. Please verify that all roads will be receiving a 4-inch overlay.

All roads, parking lots, boat ramp area and campsite driveways will receive 4- inches off gravel.

2. Would NPS accept a 22A stone rather than a 21A stone? I can provide an example of the price difference between the two to show that the 22A would be more cost-effective, additionally after talking with several quarries in the area, the 22A is more readily available than the 21A and the 22A will have more of a natural look.

The NPS will only accept 21A stone for project.

3. What size trucks are we able to get into the location?

Depending on the answer to this, this will determine how much of an impact on pricing this will be

A truck and trailer lead can be used under traffic control and visitor designated parking determined by

COR.

4. Is there a rough order of magnitude for this project? If there is can you please share it with us

Project magnitude: $250k-$350k

5. What is the conversion from yards to tons on the 21A? We want to make sure we use the same formula when we calculate our bid.

When the requirement was created it was simply done so by calculating the cubic yards that would be desired/needed.

Tons or a conversion from tons to yards was not done. Therefore, I cannot provide you with a formula.
