About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document (Amendment P00002) for Solicitation #140P6425Q0004 regarding a Greenhouse Rehabilitation project at Indiana Dunes National Park (INDU). The document addresses six technical questions about specifications and requirements for the greenhouse rehabilitation work.
Key clarifications include: polycarbonate panels must be replaced in kind with field verification of existing panels; all fasteners and aluminum extrusions including wall penetrations must be replaced per specifications rather than reused; climate control components must be replaced in kind without adding remote access features; no flue pipes or heaters will be replaced; EMT conduit must be used instead of PVC pipe due to greenhouse conditions; and the existing polyethylene film must be protected and re-attached rather than replaced during endwall work. These answers provide important technical guidance for contractors preparing quotes for the greenhouse rehabilitation project.

Questions and Answers listed below:
QUESTIONS:
Question # Question Answer/Response
1. 2.2 gives specs on the polycarbonate, but fails to determine the warranty and gram(weight) of desired panels. Generally, the lighter weight, the less warranty, so the cheaper the cost, but also the less life you would get out of the product and it would yellow more rapidly. I would suggest a 1700 gram product if you desire a better, more durable polycarbonate with a 15 year warranty
"Replace panels in kind" - The contractor will be required to field verify the existing panels and replaced in kind.)
2. 2.3 says to provide aluminum extrusions. Almost always, industry standard is to reuse the aluminum as long as it isn't damaged. This structure doesn't look very old, so I would doubt much of the aluminum would need replacement.
Please follow the provided specifications and replaced all fasteners and aluminum extrusions including wall penetrations
3. 2.6 Gives some guidelines on a climate controller, but there are some options which aren't outlined. Does the grower prefer to have remote access from phone? There are differing opinions on the support and reliability different brands and manufacturers provide. I assume this includes replacing all components that go with this? Or where do you prefer we stop? Vent control boxes, all relay panels, etc?
Replace in kind all the components, including vent controls relays and electrical components, no additional features are required like remote access or phone connection.)
4. 2.10 again just would like clarification on the polycarbonate. What is the desired framing(wood, galv steel, what gauge/size). Want aluminum extrusions around penetrations? Some designs skip this step and it doesn't seal well, looks bad, and isn't as durable. There are numerous options for endwall extrusions, designs, styles, etc; is there some direction the user wishes to see? No new flue pipe or heater? I assume the flue pipe is old and rusty, if that is the case, reusing would be extremely difficult.
No flue pipe or heaters will be replaced on this building
5. specs using PVC conduit inside of the greenhouse, but it is highly recommended not to use PVC exposed in a greenhouse. I can provide countless photographs of what happens to PVC conduit in a greenhouse, but long story short is the sun and heat degrade it rapidly and it bends, breaks, and becomes brittle. I strongly recommend using EMT instead of PVC using watertight fittings
Use EMT and not PVC pipe
6. I don't see (I might have missed) replacing the polyethylene film. It would be impossible to replace the endwalls and the extensive work being done and reuse the poly. Should spec out desired poly, and replacement
No polyethylene film will be replaced, the contractor shall protect the existing film and re-attached after replacing the endwalls.
