Fire Sprinkler System Inspection & Repair Service

Hopewell Culture National Historical Park

Solicitation #140P6424Q0027

Questions & Answers

Question #1 – Could you provide the dry pendent measurements?

Answer – An approximate measurement of 2 pendents from different rooms is 10 inches from end of threads to tip of sprinkler head. Contractors are required to verify all measurements. During the site visit contractors had the option to access and measure any part of the system.

Question #2 – In the project spec sheet it showed 4 systems;

1 dry system, 1 wet system, and 2 antifreeze systems. Upon our visit yesterday, we found 5 systems total; 1 dry, 2 antifreeze, and 2 wet systems. One of those wet systems feeding both of your antifreeze loops. This would mean 5 annual inspections and 5 internal inspections. Is your intention to have all your systems inspected on both the annual and five-year internal basis?

Answer – Yes, a wet system was found and feeds the 2 antifreeze systems. In the past it was not tested separately. Our intention is to have all sprinkler systems inspected on both the annual and five-year internal basis.

Question #3 – Under this contract are you hoping to have the backflows, fire hydrants, extinguishers, and alarms inspected on the annual basis as well?

Answer – No just the sprinkler systems and now FDC’s.

Question #4 – Would we be hydrostatically testing the FDC connections on all three buildings? Typically this is done on the same interval as the 5 year internal pipe inspections. We did not see any tags on or near the FDC’s.

Answer – Yes, the Park would like to have the FDC connections hydrostatically tested.

Question #5 – Do you know if the AHJ/Fire Department will be requiring expansion tanks on the antifreeze systems?

Adding expansion tanks would be best at the time of head replacement/internal pipe inspection because the antifreeze solution will already be drained. Is that something you would want us to include in this proposal?

Answer – Yes, add expansion tanks to the antifreeze systems.

NOTE – To clarify, this contract is only calling for this year’s annual and 5-year internal tests, it does not include future tests.
