About this file

This document provides guidance to contractors working on the Bridges and Box Culvert Renovations at Wind Cave National Park federal contract opportunity. The project involves renovations to bridges and box culverts within the park. The document inventories and records historic graffiti discovered on the support structures of the Beaver Creek High Bridge during a pre-site inspection. Contractors working on the project must take care not to damage, impact, or otherwise disturb any of the recorded historic graffiti. Protective measures such as plastic sheeting or plywood can be used during work to avoid unintentional damage. Contractors are responsible for contacting the Contracting Officer's Representative prior to any work that could impact the graffiti. Additional graffiti discovered during the project work must also be reported. The document provides contact information for the Contracting Officer's Representative and Contracting Officer for the project.

Beaver Creek High Bridge Historic Graffiti

Historic Graffiti was discovered (for record) during a pre-site visit inspection by park personnel. This graffiti appears to be historic in nature and created using a pencil (or similar item) on the concrete surfaces of the Beaver Creek High Bridge support structures. The following is an inventory of the graffiti discovered.

At the time of this document, only the southwest end of the bridge was photographed. More inspections will take place and any additional items of interests will be recorded. There are more examples than displayed in this document, but historic graffiti was discovered and recorded on the front face of Abutment 1, on multiple sides of Pier 1 (both columns) and on multiple sides of Pier 2 (both columns).

Care must be taken by the contractor to not damage, impact, or otherwise disturb any historic graffiti.

Work around any historic graffiti must be assessed prior to start for possible unintentional damage.

Work is not expected to be delayed and reduction of impact can be as simple as covering location of graffiti with protective plastic sheeting and/or plywood during work. The contractor is responsible to contact the Contracting Officer’s Representative prior to work impacting any graffiti. Little to no direct disturbance is expected due the limited access of the original taggers, but care should be taken. If additional locations are discovered during work, the COR must be contacted to record and inventory the area.
