About this file

This document contains questions and answers from a site visit for a federal contract to renovate existing water storage tanks at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The contract allows work hours from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, including during the Sturgis motorcycle rally in August. Electrical conduit should be 1-1/2 inch seal tight metallic flex as specified in the plans, but alternative products may be proposed. Mt. Rushmore National Memorial Renovate Existing Water Storage Tanks

Site Visit Questions and Answers Amendment 0001

1. What are the hours of operation for the Mt. Rushmore Project and will Saturday work be allowed? Would 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday be allowed?

Government Answer: The park can support work operations between 6:00 a.m - 4:30 p.m Monday through Saturday.

2. Does Electrical Note S1 of the Plans indicate half inch seal tight or an inch and a half seal tight?

Government Answer: The Plans show Note S1 conduit to be 1 -1/2-inch seal tight metallic flex conduit. Contractors should follow the specification. During the submittal process, the awardee can submit products that they consider equal to what is specified for government approval.

3. Could a Tek Style cable replace the Seal Tight to give better physical protection and longer life of the control wires?

Government Answer: Contractors should bid this project using the current specification During the submittal process, the awardee can submit products that they consider equal to what is specified for government approval.

4. Would the owner allow work during the bike rally? We are aware that this is a very busy week, but we believe it is necessary to continue work once it starts. The 60 days for each of the small tanks would put us finishing up around Nov. 15th at the earliest. This is already pushing the seasonal limits for weather at this site. Shutting down for two weeks during the rally would have a negative impact on the schedule. Work sites are off site and away from the public. Conditions could be made to move any operations impacting the public to happen in the early part of the day.?

Government Answer: Project is projected to start Sturgis rally. If the project starts before the bike rally, contractor would be allowed to work during the bike rally.

5. Please provide additional clarification at the following locations:

a. Plan sheet 7, Detail 2 & 3‐ Is there an existing wall sleeve in place to enable the contractor to replace the inlet pipe, or is the pipe cast into the wall?

Government Answer: Existing Wall Sleeve can be used.

b. Plan Sheet 8 Detail 2 & 3‐ Is there an existing wall sleeve in place to enable the contractor to replace the overflow pipe, or is the pipe cast into the wall?

c. Plan Sheet 9 Details 2, 3, 4, & 5 ‐ Are there existing a wall sleeves in place to enable the contractor to replace the pipes, or are the pipes cast into the wall?

6. Can you please detail all vehicle access availability to the three sites and any restrictions that the park would impose?

Government Answer: The 75K gal and 125K gal tanks are not accessible by vehicle. The 500k gal tank is accessible by vehicle.
