140P6218B0004 Questions from the 7 June Site Visit

1. The service line for the fountain, is the path to be around the wall (backside) to the fountain?

Yes

2. Is the current waterline to the water fountain a 1inch line and is the path behind the wall also?

Current is ¾ inch but replacement will be 1 inch. Path is to be behind the wall.

3. Can the trees be cleared for the waterline path? This was asked in several locations where the waterline had a path requiring tree removal.

Yes, if necessary trees can be removed within 40 feet of roadways. The small grove of trees near the entrance road/visitor center/parking lot wall is also approved for tree removal if necessary.

Hydrants and water lines can also be moved to avoid cutting trees.

4. Is the NPS requiring the replacement waterlines to be run into the inside of the building or make a connection to the existing line on the outside of the buildings?

Make solid connection on outside of buildings.

5. Is the waterline running to the Visitor Center (VC), from the main line, a 2 inch line?

yes

6. Behind the VC is a chiller. Are there chiller lines buried from the chiller to the VC that the waterline will cross? yes

7. The fire hydrant behind the VC, up on the hill (among the brush and trees), is that to be replaced at that location or can it be moved closer to the VC? This fire hydrant can be located at bottom of hill near the visitor center. Do not have to install on top of hill in current location.

8. Does the main waterline stop at the fire hydrant behind the VC? yes

9. If any landscape is disturbed, does it get replaced with the same plants, trees, mulch, rock, etc.?

yes, try to stay away from any tree/vegetation as much as possible and take precautions to minimize root damage.

10. The main waterline by the parking lot at the maintenance facilities (and curatorial storage), can it be run on the South side of the parking lot instead of cutting through the middle of the parking lot? Yes

11. How close can the new waterline be to the existing lines coming across the county road? Could be next to existing line as long as old pipe is not disturbed.

12. To what extent can grubbing be done? Width of the trench necessary to accommodate pipe and not more than 15 feet widths.

13. There is a protected bat in the area. At times, the felling of trees is not permitted. Does that restriction apply to the trees needing to be removed under this project? No, consulted with proper authorities and the project is exempt from tree removal restrictions due to roadway and facility proximity to water line.

14. The line that runs in front of the maintenance office building to the curatorial storage, can the new line be routed behind the maintenance building? Yes

15. Would it be possible for the NPS to have the lines located and marked, having pictures sent and allow contractors to come back to visit the site after the lines have been marked (locate completed)? Yes

16. Can the fire hydrants near the housing units be moved and the new fire hydrants installed closer to the road? Yes, provided the contractor consults with the COR for location approval.

17. The waterline crossing the county road will be sleeved causing the county road to be closed while this is being completed. Has this been taken into consideration in this project? Yes

18. Is the sleeve called for in the specifications the correct length for the width of the county road and the approaches? Yes

19. Do you want the sleeve to run under the approaches? Yes

20. Can the tree debris be left at a designated location within the Park? Yes. Work with COR on location.

23. What buildings are to be metered? Maintenance Office, Administration/Quarters 3, Quarters 4, On 1” line for drinking fountain

24. There is a 6 inch line (return line) from the building next to the maintenance office building. Can the return line be changed to a 4 inch line? All main water lines should be changed to 6 inch.

Project will not require any 4 inch main water lines.
