QUESTIONS
140P5326R0019 – GRSM WASTEWATER SYSTEM
1. Attachment 1 – Project Statement states “Contractor must be licensed in the State of North Carolina or Tennessee to install Public Wastewater Systems.”
Please confirm that our primary subcontractor’s license will meet this requirement.
a. The primary subcontractor license will not meet this requirement. The prime or subcontractor who will be installing the septic system component must be licensed to perform that work.
2. If we elect to use 2-2500 gallon tanks, would those be installed beside each other or end to end of each other?
a. If two 2500 gallon tanks are utilized, they must be installed in series or end to end.
3. Does the park service have a spec on the siphon tubes to be replaced that can be used for pricing?
a. The basis of design for the siphon was the American Manufacturing Company Dosing Siphon Model 417. See Sheet C5. Product specification and installation shall follow this model or equivalent.
4. What are the ground and aerial tree clearing restrictions for construction? Can we clear an aerial space for a crane to set the tank structure if needed?
a. Access and ground area are limited to the existing walking and road path to the comfort station and disposal field. Caution must be used to protect the exiting pathway. Any damage to caused by the contractor’s efforts will required repair or replacement. See Section 3 of SOW. As far as clearing, tree cutting and clearing is only anticipated around the drain field. No tree clearing was approved or anticipated for the area near the comfort station. Some pruning may be considered but a plan showing extents of this work will need to be reviewed before authorizing any pruning/cutting.
5. Will the park allow a bypass pumping system to be used during construction to avoid providing portable toilets for the guests?
a. A bypass pumping system will allowed as long as it maintains existing service and access to the comfort station.
6. Does the park service have a dump site that can be utilized to dispose of excess spoils?
a. The park is willing to accept spoil from onsite excavations, as long as it is clean. The location unknown at this time but will be located within the park and with 16 miles of the project site.
7. Is there a certain quarry/borrow site that is required for suitable backfill material if needed?
a. There is no specific quarry. Material must meet the specification and certified weed free. Topsoil needs to be inspected and approved by the park.
8. Will we be able to use the main parking lot to stage materials and equipment given the limited space available beyond the gate?
a. Limited space up to 3 parking spaces will be able to be provided, but not near the walkway to the comfort station. Aside from those spaces, the contractor will have the area past the gate near the comfort station to utilize for the construction.
9. Will park rangers assist in escorting larger loads during mobilization/de-mobilization or will contractor need to schedule escorting?
a. Park will not escort. Contractor will need to provide their own temporary traffic control and escorts, and coordinate timing of deliveries with park staff for awareness. Contractors also need to look at the limitation of the roads, including tunnels and inclines when considering equipment and material deliveries.
10. Will the park service require the inside of the new HDPE sewer main to be debeaded? (Remove inner weld rings)
a. Yes
11. Is there any consideration of a PVC liner inside the existing host pipe instead of pipe bursting? (The fold and form liner is the equivalent of a new PVC line without the excessive excavation needed for pipe bursting.)
a. No.
12. Given the opportunity of vehicle traffic across the new septic tank, should we plan on installing a traffic rated tank for structural purposes?
a. Yes
13. Can the park provide dimensions of The Loop underpass for logistical planning?
a. The tunnel is 42’-8” wide at the base. The roadway through the tunnel is 25’-6” wide. Minimum clearance is 19’-7” at the white striping on the inside edge of the curve and 14’-9” at the white stripe on the outside edge of the curve.
