About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a solicitation regarding cedar shakes procurement for the Department of the Interior National Park Service Southeast Region (Solicitation #140P5325Q0003). The document addresses four questions about installation exposure/reveal specifications for 36-inch cedar shakes.
The responses indicate that both standard exposure and 10" weather exposure will be used, with an installation exposure/reveal of 10-12 inches. The agency notes that while the exposure may occasionally be larger depending on historic structure requirements, these shakes are being purchased for general stock inventory to address potential damage from tree strikes or wind storms, rather than for a specific structure. The mill requires exposure specifications prior to cutting the 36-inch shakes, which are noted as uncommon.
