Ans 2: Other (explain) Reference paragraph c from the Statement of Work: "The overall objective of this project is to conserve and stabilize the object so that it may be displayed within the park museum and visitor center in a temperature, light, and humidity controlled case.

The Park does not desire the coat to be restored to near original condition, but the current condition is too deteriorated for exhibition.

When complete, the coat should no longer appear threadbare, yet should retain appropriate character for an object that is over 150 years old."

Ques 3: What is the desired time frame for conservation?

Ans 3: Reference Paragraph H from the Statement of Work: "Period of Performance for this award is one year after receipt of award."

Ques 4: Has the item been previously conserved?

Is there written documentation of the process?

If so, is the documentation available for review?

Has it been vacuumed? When? Has it undergone any chemical testing or treatment? When and how?

Ans 4: No, the item has not been previously conserved. Yes, it has been vacuumed approximately two years ago. The coat was vacuumed prior to the parks ownership. No it has not undergone any chemical testing or treatment.

Ques 5: In what manner is the item currently stored? With temperature/humidity/light regulation? please explain.

Ans 5: The coat is currently stored in the park museum collection storage building. The coat is stored flat in a drawer of a wardrobe style storage cabinet. The temperature is 58 degrees and humidity at 58%. The building has no outside

UV or Visible Light as the building does not have windows. The florescent light is only on when staff are working in the storage area.

Ques 6: If the item is moved or lightly touched, does it disintegrate?

Ans 6: No. The coat was recently turned over for

Ques 7: What is the suggested figure for liability insurance?

Ans 7: Reference Paragraph I from the Statement of Work: "The amount of coverage shall be

$100,000.00"

Ques 8: Is there historical documentation of the item?

Ans 8: Historical documentation is available and will be provided to the contractor upon award of the contract.

Ques 9: Does your collections manager have some additional images of the interior of Colonel

Whitfield's coat?

Ans 9: Additional images are attached.

Ques 10: The SNMP SCOPE document requests transport of the coat to the conservation laboratory "via hand carry". Given the distance to our conservation lab, we feel it would be safer and of better interest for the object if it was delivered by a museum-quality art transporter, rather than conveyed by the conservator for the required distance. After return delivery of the conserved coat, I would fly to Memphis, drive to Shiloh, unpack the coat and speak with staff about its safe display and storage needs. Should we be fortunate and awarded this opportunity, is this amendment to the proposal acceptable?

Ans 10: Section D.1 of the SOW states: "Travel to Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh, TN.

Pack as appropriate for safe transport and transport (via hand carry) the Whitfield Coat to the conservator's laboratory for treatment.

Following completion of treatment, pack and return (via hand carry) the coat to Shiloh

National Military Park." We would have no objection to the use of an art transporter, as long as the contractor understands they are also responsible for appropriately packing the item for transport. We would suggest the contractor
