SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This Section includes the following:

1. Scope of work.

2. Use of premises.

3. Other project requirements.

1.2 SCOPE OF WORK

A. Description: The project will replace a damaged section of glass on the north-facing clock face of Independence Hall with new frosted glass. The project is to be bid as a base bid with no options.

1. The Contractor shall provide all labor, tools and equipment necessary for successful execution and completion of the work.

2. The Contractor shall conduct the clock face repairs from inside the tower to the greatest extent possible. For safety and aesthetic reasons, exterior scaffolding will not be permitted to remain in place for an extended duration.

3. Note that the existing glazing was installed from the interior, and then sealant was applied at the exterior to the stainless steel clock dial (which is under the gold leafed brass numerals). Contractor shall develop a method to install sealant at the exterior bedding plane of the new glass panel.

4. To accomplish the replacement of the damaged section of glass, it may be necessary to demount the numerals of the affected section. The contractor will remove the broken glass, clean and prepare the steel frame and install the replacement glass.

5. Drawings that show the work to be performed are found in the attached plans and detail drawings. All work shall be completed in conformance with these drawings and specifications.

B. Project Location:

1. Work will be performed at Independence National Historical Park under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, Northeast Region. Independence National Historical Park is located within complex developed areas with a high volume of pedestrians and vehicles occupying a dense built environment of historic and non-historic structures, utility infrastructures, and public gardens.

2. Independence Hall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site visited by more than 700,000 people a year. Independence Hall is located at 520 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA.

C. Base Bid: Contractor has a responsibility to:

1. Furnish: high quality materials, free of defects. Fabricate the glazing panel to meet the dimensions to fit the field conditions, and design provided in the attached
