140P4222Q0049 Upholster Reproduction Chair Frames - Eisenhower National Historic Site (EISE)

Questions and Answers

Q1. Can shipping and handling of chair frames to/from contractor’s location be handled by a third party?

Can an estimated weight and dimensions be provided?

A1. Yes, per the requirements of the Statement of Work and Solicitation clauses regarding Government Property. Approximate weights are 20lbs per chair. Approximate dimensions are 28.5” wide and 28.5” deep. Approximate heights are 41.75” and 42.5” respectively.

Q2. How should differences in the costs of potential fabrics be accounted for, i.e., vintage chintz vs.

visually identical alternatives.

A2. Per the updated SOW, visually reproducing the upholstery as it appeared at the time of the reference photographs is the primary goal of this project. Vintage materials are not required if suitable alternate materials are available that are a visual match to the reference images and have sufficient longevity and durability for long term display, those are acceptable.

Q3. What is the required thickness of the seat cushion? Is seat foam quality a consideration, or are the chairs for aesthetics only?

A3. While the thickness of the seat cushion is not specified in the SOW, the seat cushion for each chair should look as it does in the 1955 reference photos. Both chairs will be on permanent exhibit in historic house museums. No one will ever sit on them. So, the quality of the foam is unimportant for human comfort but is important to keep its shape for many years/decades on exhibit.

Q4. Should labor and materials be quoted separately. Would a miscellaneous category be acceptable as a line item, to cover minor unknowns in quantities of materials etc.?

A4. You may structure your quote pricing as a single price or broken down in whatever way makes sense, however, all costs must be reflected in the total Firm Fixed Price amount quoted.
