About this file

This document is an amendment to Solicitation 140P2124R0060 for the MORU - AV System Upgrade project. The purpose of this amendment is to incorporate answers and photos to Requests for Information (RFIs) that were submitted. The solicitation is seeking upgrades to the audio-visual system at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial amphitheater and indoor theaters. Key details include:

The amphitheater can be accessed by vehicle, and a small manlift can be used for the installation. The expectation is for a permanent LED video wall that fits within the 16:9 ratio of the amphitheater opening. Detailed dimensions of the amphitheater and existing speaker tower locations are provided. The existing audio system uses multiple language transmitters, but the future system only requires single language capabilities. Tower worker certifications are required. The indoor theaters are identical, and there is limited space behind the screen wall to add a center channel speaker. The outdoor amphitheater system is designed for 5.1 surround sound. Offerors are expected to propose solutions for screen positioning and projector mounting. All other terms and conditions of the original solicitation remain unchanged.

Requests for Information (RFI) for Solicitation 140P2124R0060: MORU – AV System Upgrade

1. Can the amphitheater be reached by vehicle?

Answer: Yes.

2. Can a lift be used for the installation at the amphitheater?

Answer: Yes. A small manlift with a max working height of 20-25 ft can be maneuvered on to the stage and used inside the building.

3. Is the amphitheater projector to be mounted on the back wall, ceiling, truss, floor mounted?

Answer: Floor.

4. The RFQ is requesting an optional video wall for the amphitheater. A video wall cannot be “rolled up”, like a screen. If this option were selected, what are the expectations on covering the entire opening?

Answer: Expectation is the LED wall would remain assembled and be the maximum size that would utilize the 16:9 ratio and fit inside the doors of the amphitheater. The LED Wall would be protected from weather.

The support structure for the LED wall would be permanent, not movable. Components of the wall should be easily maintained and accessible from the front and back. The wall should include a high output processor/controller.

5. Please provide dimensions of the amphitheater. (Length, width at front, width at rear and rise from front seats to rear seats.) These dimensions are needed to provide an accurate computer generated coverage map.

Answer: All measurements are within +/- 5'. Length = 167' from the screen to the back row. Width at front of stage = 90'. Width at last row = 164'. Rise from front to rear is approximately 30-35 degrees.

6. Can you please provide the height and location of the existing towers?

Answer: There are four towers, two front and two rear. The two front towers are aligned with the front row and are 122' apart. The two rear towers are aligned with the start of the rear seating section and are 171' apart. Distance between the front and rear towers is 114'.

Tower heights of the Washington side front tower is 23'7", Washington side back tower is 16'10". Lincoln side front tower is 40' and Lincoln side back tower is 26'. All measurements approximate. Disparate heights are due to uneven ground.

The top of the front towers are approximately 6-8 feet above the front row. Front row and stage are level with one another.

The top of the rear towers is about even with rear seating.

7. Can you please provide the existing speaker manufacturer and model numbers for the amphitheater system?

Answer: Unknown.

8. Are the subwoofers the speakers located on the front left and right of the building?

Answer: No. The subwoofer is mounted above the center speaker.

9. Can you provide pictures of the base of each of the towers?

Answer: Towers are mounted the exact same way. They are secured in concrete.

10. How far are the towers from the concrete skirt of the stage area?

Answer: Approximately 15'.

11. Can you provide pictures from below the speakers to see how the lighting par cares are mounted in relationship to the speakers on the towers?

Answer: See attached photos.

12. Are there multiple languages being transmitted in each system? (There are five Listen transmitters in each existing system.) If so, will we need to continue to transmit in multiple languages?

Answer: Yes to multiple languages currently transmitted. No to multiple languages in the future.

13. Please provide more information regarding “tower certification” as indicated on Pg 7.

Answer: Tower certifications for tower workers are available through multiple associations and organizations. Standard cortication nomenclatures include Authorized Climber/Rescuer and Competent Climber/Rescuer. Authorized Climbers must be under supervision by a Competent Climber. Expectation is certification costs are included in the offerors bid.

14. Is there conduit for pulling new cable to the existing towers?

Answer: Yes.

15. Please provide more information regarding “third-party” mixing. Is the customer wanting just inputs into the system, or is the customer wanting a mixing console to connect to the speaker system? If a console is desired, please provide specifications.

Answer: Inputs. Guest will provide their own mixer.

16. Are both indoor theaters the exactly the same? (Only pictures of one theater was provided)

Answer: Yes.

17. Can you provide the dimensions of the current indoor theater speaker enclosures. (height, width and depth)

Answer: Each enclosure is approximately 2' square and 1' deep.

18. Is there room behind the current screen (indoor theaters) wall to add the center channel behind the screen? What are the dimensions behind the wall? Can pictures be provided?

Answer: The screen wall is a free-standing wood frame structure. Distance from the rear of the screen wall to the rear wall is approximately 4'. No pictures available currently.

19. Is there conduit from the booths (indoor theaters) to the existing speaker locations?

Answer: Yes.

20. Can you please confirm that the outdoor amphitheater system is designed to reproduce a surround encoded file and that the rear speaker towers are not just delay fill speakers.

Answer: Current movie shown is 5.1 surround.

21. Please provide the distance between each tower and the concrete walkway.

Answer: Tower to walkway is approximately 15'.

22. Can you drive to each sound tower?

Answer: No.

23. With the potential damage of affixing the electric screen surface to the ground in some way, would a permanent snap screen be an option? The screen could be winched out of position (controlled by iPad control system) to the ceiling or on wheels to roll out of the way.

Answer: Offeror to propose a design.

24. Please provide door opening size for the outdoor amphitheater (To determine correct extra screen drop if needed).

Answer: Approximately 25' wide by 20' high.

25. Does the mount for the projector need to be a ceiling mount? I don’t see in the pictures where the projector is located.

Answer: Projectors in theaters and amphitheater sit on crates off the floor.
