About this file

This document provides answers to questions from a site visit for Solicitation # 140P1523Q0058 for pavement maintenance projects at Saguaro National Park. The work includes crack sealing, pavement patching, microsealing, and restriping roads and parking lots within the Administration and Maintenance areas. The National Park Service seeks these services to stabilize deteriorating pavement conditions in preparation for a future chip seal project. The document clarifies that contractors are responsible for verifying quantities and locations for striping and that no riprap material needs to be supplied. It also confirms the requirement for a 409 microseal and changes the response date from August 7th to August 16th, 2023 at 1:00PM MST to allow for review of the amendment.

1. Question: It was mentioned at the prebid that there would be some areas of additional striping. Please provide location and quantities.

A. Answer: The locations for the striping can be gone over in field with the John Teeter to ensure exact locations and the quantities that are given in the SOW are from google earth, so Contractors are to confirm exact quantities. From the Scope of Work (SOW) on page 7 and 8, the highlighted and strike through are going to be removed from the original SOW and states the following: Contract Line-Item Number 002: Re-Stripe Roads and Parking Lots

1. This item includes centerline striping, fog lines, parking stall lines, crosswalks, stop sign lines, handicap symbols, painted islands, and turn areas. These include but not limited and to be verified at the site visit to ensure all painting is covered:

2. Question: Rip Rap was mentioned at the Prebid in 3 locations, Is there rock intended for this onsite or will this material need to be brought in?

Answer: No riprap will be needed to be supplied by Contractors for this project. Park will be purchasing and installing additional riprap in the areas that were discussed on the site visit.

3. Question: Micro Seal Vs. Fog Seal. In the solicitation 3.1 A Contract Line-Item Number

001: Crack Seal Roads and Parking Lots, "This project is to seal cracks, pavement patching, micro seal, and restriping and painting of the Administration and Maintenance access roads and parking areas. The completion of this project will help stabilize deteriorating paved road conditions and prepare the road for a future chip seal project."

It looks like at some point the intent is to chip seal these roads. With this intent in mind would the government consider doing a 406 fog seal as opposed to a 409 micro seal.

Answer: No, the 406 fog seal will not provide enough protection of the existing road condition that is needed at this time, NPS wants the 409 Micro seal applied to the existing asphalt.
