3. DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT
The National Park Service (NPS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified contractors capable of performing construction services to Remodel the Visitor Center for New Exhibits at Golden Spike National Historic Park.
This project involves refurbishing the 4,500-square-foot Golden Spike National Historical Park Visitor Center. Built in 1968, the Visitor Center houses offices for seasonal and permanent park staff, the Western National Parks Association (WNPA), a library, exhibit space, an information desk, a small theater, and WNPA retail space. Open year-round, it serves all 63,000 annual park visitors.
The project will update interior spaces including many wall, floor, and ceiling finishes. It will update 1960’s era electrical components, install energy-efficient lighting and adjust circuits to support new exhibits, office space, and the park’s cooperating association store. Additional work includes updates to almost 60-year-old HVAC components and minor modifications to approximately 1,500 square feet of fire sprinklers, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and communication systems to improve reliability. To enhance public health, the project also includes rodent-proofing, and asbestos and lead paint abatement.
The project addresses deferred maintenance and improves accessibility, energy efficiency, pest control, and office functionality. This refurbishment will transform the center from a tired space with ageing and inefficient systems, static displays, and poor lighting into a modern space with an engaging, interactive visitor experience that will need little additional investment to be able to serve the public for the next 50 years.
The estimated magnitude of construction is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000 (FAR 36.204).
The Government anticipates awarding a firm-fixed-price construction contract.
