About this file

This document appears to be the Standard 617-13 from the Federal Lands Highway U.S. Customary Standard, which outlines the requirements for installing G4 W-Beam guardrail in rock. It provides specifications for the embedment depth, drilling depth, and overlying material for two different cases of rock installation. The key details include:

Case 1: For overlying material depths of 18 inches or less, the post should be embedded a minimum of 24 inches, with the area between drilled holes excavated and filled with crushed coarse aggregate.

Case 2: For overlying material depths greater than 18 inches, the post should be embedded a minimum of 30 inches, with the area between drilled holes excavated and filled with crushed coarse aggregate.

The document also specifies requirements for treating exposed galvanized steel post surfaces with zinc-oxide paint. This standard is referenced in the related federal contract opportunity for guardrail repairs at Yellowstone National Park.
