Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

STATEMENT OF WORK:

Cyclic Brushing of Lake Meredith Trails DATED:

May 2024 Changes in Yellow

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE INTERMOUNTAIN REGION

Introduction:

Lake Meredith National Recreational Area (LAMR) and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument (ALFL) are located in the Panhandle of northern Texas. The two units share boundaries outside the town of Fritch, Texas and lies within the 3 counties of Hutchinson, Moore, and Potter.

Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1966 and encompasses 1,731 acres. This site shows evidence of human habitation for nearly 13,000 years and has 700 flint quarries that were used to provide raw materials for the manufacture of tools and weapons. This site receives approximately 4000 visitors annually.

Lake Meredith National Recreation Area surrounds a man-made reservoir creating the largest area of public lands in the northern Texas Panhandle roughly 45,000 acres. The reservoir was created with Canadian River in 1965 by eleven Texas panhandle cities to provide water for sustainability of urban life. The recreation area offers numerous trails, camping opportunities, fishing, boat ramps, and RV sites to the public for rare opportunities in this climate and region.

Objective:

This scope is for annual trail maintenance pruning on Lake Meredith National Recreation Area (LAMR) trail systems located on the east side of the Canadian River Valley and Lake Meredith. Maintenance includes brushing and mowing trails mechanically, physically with hand tools, and the use of NPS approved herbicides. All brush cut or pruned shall be returned to the landscape no closer than three (3’) feet from the cleared limitations of the trail. Trails on sloped terrain shall have debris deposited to the landscape on the downside elevation of the hiking surface. Due to arid climate, contractor shall register hot work permits with the park includes dates and times when machinery used to brush the trails. The trail system spans 107,574 lineal feet(20.37 miles), consisting of five (5) named trails with limited access points.

Locations shall include but are not limited the following trails:

1. Sanford Yake Boat Ramp Parking Trail (357 lineal feet)

2. Fritch Fortress Trail (24,129 lineal feet)(4.57 miles)

3. Harbor Bay Trail (20,854 lineal feet) (3.95 miles)

4. South Turkey Creek Trail (50,315 lineal feet) (9.52 miles)

5. Mullinaw Trail (11,919 lineal feet)(2.26 miles)

* Trails lengths shall be confirmed by the contractor- lengths provided are estimated to be within 80-90% accuracy.

The work of this contract consists of providing all labor, equipment, supervision, and materials to accomplish one (1) single vegetation treatment and trimming of the five (5) trail systems annually at LAMR. It shall be solicited as a base +2 options years for a potential total of 3 years of service. The base service will be funded in FY2024 and the options years #1-2 may be awarded if funding allows and/or the Park chooses to exercise the option years. Option years may be funded non-sequentially.
