Hope Creek Mine Cleanup Solicitation 140L6324Q0041 Amendment 0002, Attachment 1 of 1 9/4/2024 Questions and Answers Question 1:
There was no GPS for the fuel spill in the Statement of Work and when we visited the area, there wasn’t a tank or other item that would have been a possible indicator of where the spill would likely be. Can we get the GPS locates for the spill area?
Answer 1:
Thank you for your question. The diesel-contaminated pit is located at 65.40173N, 146.30240W and this statement is taken from 2018 BLM documentation, “There is a shallow excavation with a 1-2 yard spoil pile a few yards from the camp building which exhibited a fairly strong fuel odor on the day I visited. The soil sample lab analysis shows there is 9,710 mg/kg of diesel range organics. The ADEC cleanup action level for unrestricted land use is 250 mg/kg. There is definitely a reportable spill requiring cleanup present. It is hard to say if it’s a very big spill; from the surface it’s a small area about 4'x4', but the high concentration after being there this long of a time suggests there could be a much larger subsurface plume.”
Question 2:
Evidence of asbestos in the ATCO buildings was not obvious when we explored the grounds. There appeared to be just carpet, no vinyl flooring was visible. Is BLM certain there is asbestos in there?
Answer 2:
Yes, and thank you for this question. There is asbestos in the building in the bathroom vinyl flooring and wall tiling; it tested at 25% chrysotile.
