Questions & Answers

1. Question: February is unlikely to represent peak snowpack and is a challenging time for imaging and field work compared to March or April. Is there any flexibility on snow-on imagery acquisition timing?

Answer: There is some flexibility on snow-on image acquisition timing. BLM is open to doing image acquisition in March or early April as snowfall would likely have accumulated more since Feb.

2. Question: The "near-infrared' data may be of limited use in fall and particularly winter imagery and does increase the complexity of acquisition considerably. Is this a firm requirement?

Answer: While there is an increase in complexity with the addition of the near-IR wavelength, there are still added benefits to its inclusion. So currently, yes, it is still a firm requirement.

3. Question: Can you provide a shapefile or KML containing the approximate mapping unit boundaries?

Answer: Our GIS specialist has a shapefile or KML containing approximate mapping unit boundaries which can be provided.

4. Question: Is there a specific expectation for the level of effort or sampling density for the field verification work? Is it expected that all of the mapping blocks will be included in the verification, over most of their geographic extent?

Answer: The expectation for the level of sampling effort is to sample a sufficient number of points/transects to build a statistical model verifying the 10 cm accuracy requirement to 95% confidence. The exact number of points required would depend on the topographic variability within the natural system, the quality of the aerial imagery initially shot, and the skill of the operator on the ground. The following link talks a bit about the methodology.

5. Question: The SOW requirement of "±10 cm with 95% confidence" is mixed terminology. Clarify?

Answer: The intended vertical accuracy for the CWAT and Inigok image acquisition is a Vertical Accuracy Class of 10 cm.

6. Question: Is LiDAR acceptable for this requirement?

Answer: The BLM finds LiDAR would be a more than acceptable solution for this image acquisition.
