BLM-UT Cedar City Field Office Cattle Guard 1405723Q0020 Amendment 00001 April 6, 2023

Attachment 0001

Question and Answer

Q1: On the drawing, it calls out stringers at equal spaces per structural design. Can you get the expect spacing preferred for each size guard?

A1: This spacing would be determined by the design load from a structural engineer. Provide certificate of load rating or stamped design. The length of the cattleguard can vary.

Q2: On the drawing, a Rail and an Alternate Rail are listed. Is one preferred over the other? Or is it the manufacturers choice.

A2: The tapered rail is the preferred one, with the rectangle rail as an approved equal/alternate.

Q3: We think there might be a misprint on the dimensions concerning the cattle guards.

On the Request for Quotation form Line item 00010: 14 ‘ cattle guard. Should the dimensions be 14’ x 8’ x 8”? Vs 14’x’8’x 8’.

Same with line Item 00020: 12 ft cattle guard. Should the dimensions be 12’ x 8’ x 8”? Vs 12’ x 8’ x 8’

A3: 14’ x 8’ x 11” and 12’ x 8’ x 11” are the correct dimensions. (8” stringer/base + 3” rail). This has been corrected in the specifications and line items.

Q4: The drawings submitted with the solicitation depicts 14 rails. The photo submitted depicts 13 rails. Please verify.

A4: The drawings show 14 rails, spaced with a 5” clear opening. 13 rails would create an opening greater than 5”. I would suggest follow the drawings and submit shop drawings or cut sheets showing what they can provide for us to approve (this is requested in the specifications).

Q5: The drawing submitted with solicitation does not call out the stringer spacing on the bottom. Please advise.

A5: This spacing would be determined by the design load from a structural engineer. Provide certificate of load rating or stamped design. The length of the cattleguard can vary.

Q6: Our next question concerns holding our quote for 90 days. The steel market is very volatile at this time. It is concerning to hold our quote for 90 days past 4/12/23. It would help us to know just when the award will be made after the bid submission date of 4/12/2023.

A6: The validity of quotes submitted has been corrected from 90 days to a minimum of 30 days.
