About this file

This is a Rock Resource Inventory document from the Medford District detailing quarry characteristics and operational status. The MT Ruben (Bonnie Ridge) quarry, located in Township 33S, Range 8W, Section 3, is an active community pit owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The site contains approximately 20,000 cubic yards of reserves consisting of gray wacke rock from the Dothon formation with variable rock strength and fracture spacing. The quarry features a ridge top topography with a near vertical west face and overburden depth up to 20 feet. Production involves shot excavation using an air track drill method to crush material 2 inches and larger, as shale content lowers product durability. Core and air track drill reports are available from 1976 and 1982, with test results documented in the inventory file.

The quarry, located on Road 33-8-4, shows no current scheduled next use, though back country by-way development was noted as a possibility. Production records indicate the road crew used approximately 5,000 cubic yards in 1992, with no timber sales recorded. The site does not require reclamation and contains no conflicting resource values regarding minerals, vegetation, recreation, wildlife, or water. Photographs of the site are available. The inventory was completed by Parry on December 6, 1993.
