About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) attachment for a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) solicitation for Huerfano County Fuels and Vegetation Management in 2025. The Q&A addresses two key points: equipment requirements and site visit documentation. Specifically, the document clarifies that masticators must be rubber-tired machines, with a preference driven by minimizing ground disturbance and preventing the potential establishment of noxious weeds. The contracting agency indicates that tracked machines are not acceptable due to their tendency to create more soil disruption during operation. The second question suggests that site visit photos may be uploaded post-site visit, though no specific images are included in this document.

Amendment 0001 Question 1. Section C.2 Equipment Requirements states "The masticators must be rubber tired. Tracked machines will not be considered due to soil conditions at the project site." Can you elaborate a bit on this? Is there a site-specific consideration involved, or do you have any references to sources indicating that wheeled machines are less impactful on soil concerns?
Answer: Rubber tires machines because there is a difference in the amount of ground disturbance from rubber tires machines compared to tracked machines. Tracked machines tend to make more mounds of dirt with hard turns, or any turns for that matter among other disturbance created just because the track size under the machine. We do not want to have extra disturbance in this area to avoid the potential establishment of noxious weeds or other undesirable species.
Question 2. Would it be possible to upload a few photos of the area from the site visit?
Answer: We can include photos as available post site visit.
