Questions and Answers

Q1: What will be the source of the borrow material?

A1: The borrow material for the Flintstone Reservoir work will primarily be taken from along and directly below the spillway. If further borrow is required, it will be sourced from within the footprint of the reservoir along the high-water line. Borrow material for the Hump Reservoir work will be sourced from within the footprint of the reservoir along the high-water line. Approved borrow areas shall be designated and staked by the government.

Q2: Will dewatering be allowed?

A2: Dewatering of the reservoirs will be allowed as necessary to complete the dam embankment repair work. Dewatering will be considered incidental to the project work.

Q3: If muck excavation is necessary, where will the material be placed?

A3: Any necessary muck excavation shall be classified as unsuitable embankment material. Muck excavation will be placed to waste in spoil piles downstream of the dam embankment in designated areas as specified by the government. Any muck excavation that may be necessary to this project will be minor and is considered incidental to the excavation work.

Q4: Can the approximate location of the borrow area(s) be identified? If not, can a specific distance from the borrow area(s) to the project be given so that bidders know how far import material will need to be hauled and what equipment will be most effective in doing this?

A4: Borrow areas will be staked by the Government. Available borrow areas will generally be located within the footprint of each reservoir, and along and below the spillway at Flintstone Reservoir. The maximum haul distance shall not exceed 750 feet, measured by straight line distance from center of mass of the embankment to the farthest point in the borrow area.
