3.01 AREAS TO RECEIVE EROSION PROTECTION
1. Place riprap erosion protection to the lines and grades as shown on the Contract Drawings. Do not place riprap until surface has been prepared, and approved by the
CO.
3.02 PLACING
A. Subgrade Preparation:
1. Excavate, fill, or grade foundation soils in accordance with Section 02300 so riprap limits are as indicated on the Contract Drawings or as directed by the CO.
2. Install non-woven geotextile fabric underlayment on prepared surfaces. Ensure required manufacturer’s Recommendations for overlaps are maintained and outer edges of geotextile are buried a minimum of 1 foot below grade. Geotextile fabric specifications are outlined in section 02370, Geosynthetics.
12/18/2024 02275-4
B. Slope-protection rock need not be hand-placed (except at culvert inlets) or compacted but shall be handled and dumped to avoid material segregation. Riprap should be placed with an average depth as specified on the Contract Drawings. Riprap should be placed consistently and evenly throughout the marked areas.
C. Hand place 12-inch riprap at culvert inlet protection for Taint and Whiteface Reservoirs. This involves laying of rocks in an interlocking pattern with the voids between the larger rocks filled with smaller rocks. The finished surface shall be kept relatively even to decrease flow turbulence at the culvert inlet.
D. Place Class II riprap so that larger rocks are evenly distributed, and smaller rocks filling the spaces.
E. Place Class III riprap at floor and slopes of stilling basins at Taint and Whiteface Reservoirs.
Place riprap so that larger rocks are evenly distributed, with smaller rocks filling the spaces. Place rocks in such a way as to maximize dissipation of energy of water flow by creating rough and irregular surfaces at the basin.
F. Dump and smooth by moving rocks into position so that material, when in place, is stable.
G. Begin slope-protection at toe and proceed up the slope.
H. Leave no unfilled spaces within slope protection.
4.01 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT:
A. Units: Riprap supply and installation will be measured in cubic yard of rock installed and will be measured using neat lines. Riprap supply and installation will include transportation from offsite source locations. Supply and install geotextile fabric and place riprap as per specifications and Contract Drawings.
