About this file
This document is a Contractor Questions and Government Responses document for a Treated Buck and Pole Fencing solicitation (140L2625Q0102) issued by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The document addresses four key questions from potential contractors regarding wood treatment standards, dimensional tolerances, packaging requirements, and post preparation specifications. The government responses indicate flexibility in several areas: accepting industry-standard treated wood, allowing standard nominal wood sizes, permitting branded/bundled stacks with forklift access for delivery, and preferring (but not mandating) that 8 ft fence posts be cut in half after treatment with field-sealed cut ends. The solicitation appears to be for fence materials to be delivered to the Pocatello Field Office, with specific line items for bucks, rails, and posts in varying dimensions and quantities.

Question Government response Reference
Treatment standard & retention Could you confirm the acceptable wood treatment standard and minimum retention (e.g., AWPA Use Category / preservative type such as MCA/CCA and target pcf) for the bucks, rails, and posts? The Government is just looking for industry standard treated wood.
Dimensional tolerance Do the listed dimensions (5 ft × 5.5 in bucks; 12 ft × 3.5 in rails; 8 ft × 3.5 in posts) allow standard nominal sizes with typical industry tolerances, or do you require true/actual dimensions?
Standard nominal sizes would be accepted.
Packaging for delivery Is palletized delivery required for all line items, or are banded/bundled stacks with forklift access acceptable as long as safe unloading at the Pocatello Field Office is ensured? Branded/bundled stacks with forklift access would be acceptable.
For CLIN 0003 in the pricing schedule “8 ft x 3.5 in treated fence post / cut in half to brace bottom of bucks – 115 EA” could you clarify whether BLM expects:
1.Posts to be cut in half before treatment so all ends are fully treated, 2.Treated posts to be cut in half aŌer treatment, with the cut ends field-sealed, or 3.Full treated 8-Ō posts to be delivered, with cuƫng performed by BLM aŌer delivery.
Would prefer Option 2.; Treated posts to be cut in half after treatment, ends field sealed.
Others would be acceptable.
