About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details a contract for replacing an 8-inch water supply valve at the Upper Mississippi Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The project requires removing the existing broken Dresser Water Valve and installing a new butterfly water valve with a buried service gear drive actuator, extension stems, and a 2-inch square operating nut. Technical requirements specify an all-iron construction valve matching the existing valve's size and flow capacity, with components made of cast iron, black steel, or stainless steel, and seals/gaskets of plastic, teflon, or rubber.

The contractor must submit equipment cut sheets, technical specifications, an itemized equipment list, and an installation plan. The work must be completed within 90 days of contract award, performed during regular facility hours (7:30am-4pm, Monday-Friday), and coordinated with the USGS Facility Operations Specialist. Special considerations include working in a confined space, following OSHA safety procedures, minimizing disruption to facility research, and providing a one-year warranty on the installed system. The valve is located in an underground valve pit, and the contractor must ensure the new valve operates without leaks or binding.
