VIII. Objectives

To procure services to dismantle and remove a discontinued USGS data collection station and a concrete weir.

The data collection station is a 6’x’6’x10’ brick building, sitting on top of a 4’ diameter stilling well that is approximately 20’ deep. There is a roughly 128 sqft concrete pad under and around the building and stilling well which is 6” thick. The building, stilling well and concrete pad will need to be deconstructed and all the materials removed. The below ground portion of the 20’ deep well will need to be filled in with an appropriate material to prevent entry.

The concrete weir is about 10’ wide and starts at the top of the Saline Branch Drainage Ditch bank, goes down the bank at an angle, crosses the stream, then goes back up to the top of the other bank. The bank sections are 10’ wide and approximately 27’ horizontal distance, the vertical distance from the top of the bank to the bottom of the weir is roughly 20’. The section of weir in the stream channel is about 12’ wide, and 30’ across. A lot of the concrete in the stream portion is broken up and only the rebar is left. The thickness of the concrete on the weir was measured anywhere from 6” to 1.5’ thick.

There is also steel pilings under the sides of the bank portions of the weir. All concrete, rebar and steel will need to be deconstructed and removed from the banks and the ditch channel.

There is a set of concrete stairs next to the weir going down the South bank, those stairs will not be removed.

The land that the building, stilling well, and South portion of the weir are located on is owned by the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District (U-CSD), the land leading to the weir on the North bank of the Ditch is privately owned. Access to the U-CSD will have to be coordinated through the local contact listed above. If heavy equipment is needed on the North bank of the ditch and can’t be accessed from the South, private landowners will need to be contacted to gain permission.

Work under this contract shall be performed in accordance with the requirements of this Statement of Work, specifications for this contract, and all applicable federal, state and local regulations. It is very important that the successful bidder understand that this project includes removal of debris made by deconstruction.
