About this file
This document is a salient characteristics specification for a Thermal Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) system that the USGS Geology, Energy & Minerals Science Center intends to procure and deliver to Reston, VA within 56 days of order receipt. The TGA must be a stand-alone, fully integrated system with robotic autosampler capability for high-throughput analysis, installed dimensions not exceeding 21" W x 25" D x 25" H, and weight limited to 100 lbs. The system must include a built-in gas controller supporting multiple gases (air, argon, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, helium) at 1–3 bar pressure with 3 ml/min flow rate tolerance, a water bath cooling system, and expansion options for peripheral gas analysis devices. The vendor must provide available annual service plans and initial delivery, installation, and calibration services.
The furnace must heat to at least 1100°C with 0.5°C temperature precision, accommodate maximum heating rates of at least 250°C/min, include a cooling jacket with built-in thermocouple sensor, and demonstrate capability to analyze common geologic samples such as coals, carbonates, and clay samples. The solicitation (RFQ 140G0126Q0089) issued approximately April 7, 2026, requires written quotes by April 15, 2026, with an anticipated award date of April 17, 2026. The NAICS code is 334516 with a 1,000-employee size standard. Vendors must be registered at sam.gov to be considered, and quotes should be submitted to rlanderson@usgs.gov. This solicitation is issued by the Department of the Interior, US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants.
