About this file

This is Amendment 0003 to solicitation 140G0125Q0007, issued by the USGS OAG Reston Acquisition Branch. The amendment provides answers to questions regarding sample processing requirements for a robotic system for sediment sample analysis.

The amendment clarifies that laboratory technicians typically process 1-10 trays at a time, with an ideal system capable of processing 3-4 trays per cycle based on floor space considerations. The facility processes approximately 5,000 environmental water samples annually for suspended sediment concentration analysis using ASTM D3977 standards. Each water sample may require between 1-20 crucibles for processing depending on sample type, concentration and water quality conditions. The amendment maintains all other terms and conditions of the original solicitation and directs questions to Jean Walsh at jwalsh@usgs.gov.

140G0125Q0007/0003 designed to hold up to ten trays of crucibles per program cycle. Ideally, the system would be able to be set up to process three to four trays at a time (and this estimate is mainly driven by how much floor space we want to dedicate to the robotics system). This would allow us to set up the program, run it while we do other tasks, then return when complete to review the data before loading up another set of trays for the next run.

We process roughly 5000 environmental water samples per year for suspended sediment concentration analysis (ASTM D3977). A water sample analysis can require one crucible or sometimes 20 to process by the filtration method.

It depends on the sample type, concentration and water quality conditions. There is substantial variability in the environmental systems we monitor, so every sample can be different.

2. All other terms and conditions remain the same.
