About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) amendment related to Solicitation 140G0124Q0183 for the removal and replacement of a walk-in cooler at the USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center (EESC) Fish Health Lab (FHL).

The key details are:

  • The contractor will not be responsible for replacing the existing chart recorder, as it will not be used.
  • The installation of an internal ramp inside the new walk-in cooler to accommodate wheeled shelving and carts is acceptable.
  • The USGS does not require an audio/visual alarm system for the walk-in cooler, only temperature monitoring.
  • A 36" x 76" door with a 12" x 12" view window for the walk-in cooler is acceptable, even though the specifications called for a 34" x 76" door.
  • The USGS prefers the outdoor condensing unit to be installed at ground level, rather than on the roof, due to difficulties with roof access and penetration.

140G0124Q0183 Amendment 001 Q&A

1. Regarding the Chart Recorder panel, will the contractor or the USGS staff be responsible for replacing the chart recorder? Does the USGS plan to re-use the chart recorder?

a. Will not be used

2. I am incorporating an Internal ramp inside the new walk-in cooler to allow for wheeled shelving, hand carts, etc. to enter the cooler. Is this acceptable?

a. Yes

3. Does the USGS want an Audio / Visual alarm system for the walk-in cooler?

a. No, just temp reading

4. The specs identify a 34" x 76" door, the minimum dimension for a walk-in cooler door with a 12" x 12" view window is 36" x 76". Would a 36" x 76" door with a view window acceptable?

a. Yes

5. We are proposing to install an air-cooled outdoor condensing unit on the roof of the building or at ground level for the walk-in cooler. This was recommended by the manufacturer. Is there a preference?

a. Roof access is concrete and prefer not to penetrate the roof - access for ground will be difficult also.
