About this file

This document is a specifications sheet for a solicitation issued by the Iron River National Fish Hatchery (Department of Interior Fish and Wildlife Service) for the purchase of cubed chlorine-free ice used to transport lake trout and brook trout.

The solicitation requires 45,360 pounds of 20-pound cubed chlorine-free ice, to be delivered on pallets accessible by forklift. The initial delivery of 18 pallets must be made by April 28, 2025, with subsequent deliveries of 9 pallets each as freezer space becomes available, potentially requiring as little as 5 days turnaround time between deliveries. The ice must be shipped in a climate-controlled environment, arrive without melting, and cubes must not be frozen together upon arrival. Quotes must include costs for ice, shipping, and all related fees. The hatchery will provide forklift and operator for unloading, and ice will be inspected before unloading with the right to reject melted deliveries.

WI-IRON RIVER NFH

ICE PURCHASE

The Iron River National Fish Hatchery uses ice during distribution season to keep fish chilled during long journeys, arriving as close as possible to temperatures found in Lake Michigan and

Lake Huron from April to June. Ice usage is dependent upon many factors and can vary from year to year but is key to transporting lake trout and brook trout from the hatchery.

Iron River National Fish Hatchery is requesting a contractor to provide quote for:

• One quote for 45,360 pounds of 20-pound cubed chlorine-free ice

Guidelines are below:

• Quotes for ice to include cost for ice, shipping, and other related fees.

• Block and cube ice shall be chlorine free.

• Ice shall be shipped in a climate-controlled environment and arrive without melting.

• Ice cubes shall not be frozen together upon arrival. Ice will be checked prior to being unloaded and turned back to vendor if melting has occurred.

• The hatchery can store 18 pallets of ice at a time. Hatchery expects deliveries approximately on the following dates:

• 18 pallets shall be delivered by April 28, 2025.

• As a freezer is emptied, nine pallets will be delivered at a time until the order is fulfilled. However, this can be a very quick turn round time depending on the field work, meaning it could be as short as a 5 day turn around.

• Supplier shall provide pallets accessible by forklift to end of truck. Forklift and operator will be supplied by the hatchery.
