About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document clarifying specifications for a cedar cabin kit procurement. The cabin will feature 7 feet 6 inches interior wall heights with 1x6 tongue-and-groove softwood pine/fir interior finishes and 2x6 number 2 and better Douglas Fir exterior walls clad with ½-inch plywood and 1x8 tongue-and-groove cedar siding. External walls must not be finished; interior cedar walls should remain untreated. The roof system must include trusses, rafters, and beams with gable, eave, and ridge trim, with roof color to be determined by the customer. A single door (not centered) must be positioned on the 20-foot wall, and windows up to 42 inches wide maximum are required, including one egress window for each of two sleeping areas.
The cabin kit will include a partitioned kitchen space without cabinets or fixtures, and flooring will consist of exposed subfloor only. A deck level with the structure's bottom at an estimated height of 1 to 3 feet is required. All fasteners must be 8-penny and 16-penny galvanized types with metal roof screws. No interior layout, floor plans, elevations, or engineering services will be provided; the customer seeks a kit suitable for assembly by an internal working crew. Alternative structural materials such as spruce or steel-framed buildings are not acceptable, and ceiling insulation should remain at R-19 rather than R-30.
