Managed for Multiple Uses
Most of the Fortymile Country is overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. This agency strives to balance Alaskan livelihoods, lifestyles, and unique natural beauty. Mining, subsistence activities, recreation, and more all have a place here. The goal is a landscape with something for everybody.
The Fortymile River network has additional protections. Congress designated it as a "National Wild & Scenic River". Because of this, the BLM prioritizes its scenic, historic, and scientific value.
