About this file

This is a Question and Answer document for solicitation 140FC226R0007, a concrete slab construction project issued by the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service in Massachusetts. The document does not address specific products or services required, pricing terms, response dates, or award information; rather, it clarifies technical design questions posed by potential bidders regarding the foundation work.

The Q&A addresses four key clarifications: (1) a keyway detail for the stem wall alternate is not required due to existing reinforcing steel in the footing; (2) the lean-to structure will be supported by four concrete piers rather than converted to a stem wall; (3) the existing ground conditions consist primarily of gravel with no anticipated rocks or hard strata; and (4) site photographs have been provided in Solicitation Amendment One attachments. These responses indicate that the project involves foundation design with multiple construction approaches under consideration, and bidders should reference the amendment documentation for additional site information.

Question and Answer – Concrete Slab

140FC226R0007

Q1 - For the stem wall alternate, the detail shows a possible keyway but doesn't call it out explicitly. Does the project require 3 pours?

A1 - The keyway is not required, since we have reinforcing steel for the stem wall that goes into the footing.

Q2 - For the alternate that calls for the frost wall, will the 4 piers supporting the lean-to be converted to a wall as well?

A2 - the lean-to shall be supported by 4 concrete piers, not a stem wall.

Q3 - Are there any rocks or very hard strata below the existing ground for the foundation?

A3 - We believe the existing ground is made up of mostly gravel.

Q4 - Are there any photographs available for the existing site or ground?

A4 – Please see Solicitation Amendment One attachments for site photos.
