Questions and Responses Amendment No. 2 to Solicitation
No. Question and/or Notes Response
1 Will you consider a manufacturer using an L/360 deflection requirement instead of the L/800 for the bridges?
Yes, the USFWS will consider an alternate L/360 Deflection Requirement. Refer to Revised SOW, which now allows for this option.
Will you consider a manufacturer using the Allowable Stress Design (ASF) Methodology using ASCE-7 Load Combinations instead of the AASHTO guidelines. This would allow the finite element analysis to meet Factors-of- Safety to be 2.0 for the loads specified under the Salient Characteristics?
Yes, the USFWS will consider an alternate Design Methodology in lieu of Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD). Allowable Stress (Strength) Design (ASD) will be considered acceptable with the use of ASCE Standard 7 Load Combinations. Refer to Revised Technical Specifications, which allows for this change.
3 Is the foundation/abutment/footing design by the prefabricated bridge manufacturer?
No, the Foundation Footings and Abutments Design is not included in this RFP for Manufacturered Bridge Kits. Only Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Delivery / Unloading of the Bridge Superstructures.
4 If so will a full geotechnical report & civil plans be provided? Please find attached Civil and Structural Engineering Drawings and Limited Geotechnical Site Evaluation for reference. Please note, only the Bridge Assemblies are included in this Supply Order Contract.
5 Are there "construction drawings" as stated in page 2 of "A04_SOW"? Please find attached Civil and Structural Engineering Drawings (Construction Drawings) for reference.
Please note, only the Bridge Assemblies are included in this Supply Order Contract.
The decking requested is to be approximately 5ft wide. On page 3 of "A04_SOW" it states that the clear width of the bridges is to be 5ft between the interior face of guardrail. For us to achieve this the decking width on the bridges should be 5'-6" . (Picture shown below). Should the "extra" 400 linear feet of decking be 5'-6" width?
Refer to the SOW section on Bridge Dimensions, for specific requirements. As noted in the SOW, the bridge clear width will need to be 5'-0" from interior face of guardrail assembly to interior face of guardrail assembly.
The actual deck width will depend on each Manufacturer's Proposed Bridge Assembly in their quote.
Please note any Manufacturer's assumptions in the response to this RFP.
