About this file

This document is a Response to Questions addressing clarifications on laser specifications for a federal contract opportunity.

The document provides two key clarifications regarding laser technical requirements. First, in response to a question about modulation bandwidth, the government confirms that both laser linewidth and modulation bandwidth must meet the specified requirements (specifications #4 and #9), and that neither parameter can be compromised for the other. Second, regarding wavelength specifications, the document clarifies that the 1550 nm (+/-15 nm) specification means lasers must operate within the range of 1535 nm to 1565 nm, rather than requiring tuneability across the entire 30 nm range. Additionally, proposals will receive stronger consideration if the offered lasers can achieve the specific wavelength of 1556.2 nm. These responses indicate that wavelength flexibility within the stated band is acceptable, but both the linewidth and modulation bandwidth performance parameters remain non-negotiable requirements.

Response to Questions

Questions Responses 1 Would a lower modulation bandwidth be OK if the laser linewidth is sub-Hz?

No, the laser linewidth and modulation bandwidth should meet specifications #4 and #9

2 Does the wavelength spec of 1550 nm (+/-15 nm) mean that the laser should be tunable over the 30 nm range or that they should fall somewhere within the 30 nm range?

The lasers’ wavelength should be between 1535 nm and 1565 nm, with stronger consideration provided if the lasers can reach the wavelength of 1556.2 nm.
