About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document related to a robotic arms solicitation issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under Solicitation Number 1333ND26QNB030044. The document does not provide specific product requirements or procurement terms, but rather addresses clarifications from a potential offeror regarding equipment specifications and substitutions.
The Q&A clarifies several technical requirements for the robotic system: the government confirmed it does not require the Universal Robots 3kg payload model with 500mm reach, but may be interested in the 850mm reach models with 5kg or 7.5kg payloads. For the camera component, the government specified that the unit must be mounted on the end of the robotic arm. Regarding gripper specifications, the government confirmed that substitute equivalents to Schunk and Schmalz items are acceptable and clarified that the two-finger soft gripper should be specifically designed for handling light and delicate products, with specifications including gripping force up to 1.5 N and flexible, food-grade fingers for safe and gentle object handling. This document does not contain response dates, pricing information, or other standard solicitation terms.

Questions and answers
1. We are a distributor for Universal Robots so that is what robots we’d be quoting. There is not a model matching those exact specs – there is a 3kg payload model with a reach of 500mm and then there are two models with a reach of 850mm and 5/7.5kg payloads. Would you be looking at those latter units?
0. No.
1. For the camera – do you know exactly where the unit would be mounted? Or rather, is this a general request for a camera that could be mounted to the robot or a dedicated device made for the robot?
1. The camera is mounted on the end of the robotic arm.
1. We do not carry Schunk and Schmalz for items 3 and 4 but we can cross them to an equivalent unit.
2. Yes, that is acceptable.
1. Lastly, would it be possible to provide more information on what is meant by a 2-finger soft gripper?
3. Two-Finger Parallel SoftGripper is specifically designed for handling light and delicate products.
3. Gripping force of up to 1.5 N and flexible, food-grade fingers, it ensures safe and gentle object handling.
