Technical specifications for "benchtop" NMR spectrometer Highest priority (in order of importance)

Observation of 1H, 19F, and 13C nuclei (at a minimum) Permanent magnet (no cryogenic liquids required) Magnetic field strength of ≥1.4 Tesla (≥60 MHz for 1H signal) Linewidth (spectral resolution without spinning) at 50 % height of ≤0.4 Hz (it is advantageous for this to be as small as possible) Linewidth (spectral resolution without spinning) at 0.11% height of ≤20 Hz (it is advantageous for this to be as small as possible) Integrated robotic autosampler that will hold and process ≥12 samples Use of industry-standard 5 mm (o.d.) glass sample tubes The ability to turn off "reference deconvolution" feature (if applicable) Maximum physical dimensions: 49 x 49 x 100 cm (these are the maximum dimensions for use inside our fume hoods) 1H signal-to-noise ratio of ≥100 for 1% ethylbenzene (1 scan, ≤1 Hz line broadening) Operational control of pulse width (or flip angle), acquisition time, and recycle delay (or interpulse delay) Built-in 1D experiments: 1H, 13C, 19F, T1, T2, 13C DEPT, 1H and 13C decoupling, pulse calibration (additional experiments add value) Built-in 2D experiments: 1H COSY, 19F COSY, F-H COSY, 1H J-resolved spectroscopy, HMBC, HSQC (additional experiments add value) The ability to save spectral data as JCAMP-DX (or other industry-standard file format) for processing in third-party software Automated shimming and system optimization within the operating software One-year parts and labor warranty (minimum)

Medium priority (in order of importance) Sample temperature between 20 °C and 40 °C (a sample temperature near 25 °C is preferred) Maximum weight of 100 kg (excluding the weight of the PC used to control spectrometer) Suppression of solvent signals for water and common organic solvents Frequency locking without need for deuterated solvents Reaction monitoring capability Free updates for acquisition software Stray magnetic field of <3 gauss outside of the magnet enclosure

Lower priority (in order of importance) No power requirements other than a standard (U.S.) 110 V electrical outlet License for Mestrelab Mnova data analysis software Availability of an extended service contract or extended warranty
