About this file
This document is an amendment to a solicitation for a micro-computed tomography (microCT) scanner. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is seeking a desktop or floor model microCT system capable of visualization up to 125 megapixels with an object detection size range of 0.4-0.5mm up to 2x1x5cm. The system must have a 16MP CMOS detector/camera, voxel resolution of at least 2.5um, and be able to visualize features up to 2x1x5cm. Additional requirements include a precision micro-positioning stage, automatic sample changer for up to 25mm diameter x 40mm samples, and software for volumetric reconstruction, 2D/3D analysis, and visualization. Delivery must be by May 1, 2023. The equipment will be used by NOAA's Ocean Acidification and Coral Reef Conservation Programs at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory.

AMENDMENTS TO THE SOLICITATION
The following portion of the amendment is to respond to vendor’s questions and to address changes to the Technical Specifications
1. NOAA Responses to questions received:
● Question 1: Reference Solicitation SECTION E – E.2.10 Volume II: Technical Specifications – Evaluation Factor 1 – Technical Approach
What size X-Ray generator is needed?
NOAA Response: Instrument X-ray generator strength must be able to fall somewhere within the range of or exceed 40-100kV, 10W
● Question 2: Reference Solicitation SECTION E – E.2.10 Volume II: Technical Specifications – Evaluation Factor 1 – Technical Approach
Does it need to be a desktop model or would a floor model be acceptable?
NOAA Response: Desktop or floor model is acceptable.
2. NOAA Changes to the Technical Specifications:
● Change 1: Reference Solicitation SECTION D – Attachment 1 Technical Specifications
NOAA Response: Attachment 1 Technical Specifications is revoked and replaced with Attachment 1 Technical Specifications REV 1 to reflect the following changes:
ATTACHMENT 1 – TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
NR-MAD000-23-00156
SCOPE OR MISSION: The vendor will supply a microCT instrument and associated software and will send a service engineer to install and calibrate the instrument at AOML.
BACKGROUND: NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program and Coral Reef Conservation Program provided grant funding to PIs Osborne and Enochs to acquire a microCT to examine OA impacts on marine calcifiers. The following, -related research will be possible with the purchase of a microCT: a) resolving fine-scale erosion and dissolution in US coral communities that cannot be resolved by standard CT scanning, b) examining calcification response/impact of OA on planktonic calcifiers, c) examining the paleo-progression of OA in the Gulf of Mexico using foraminifera in sediment cores, d) analyzing the archive of pteropods. This purchase will
09 March, 2023 maintain a critical technical capability at AOML and contribute to the understanding of OA and its impacts.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
● High resolution desktop micro-CT system
● Micro-CT system warranty against defects in material or workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of installation
● PC workstation with system 3-year warranty
