About this file

This document outlines the technical specifications for a solicitation seeking a micro-computed tomography (microCT) scanner. The solicitation seeks a high resolution desktop micro-CT system with a voxel resolution of at least 2.5 um for visualization of small features and the ability to visualize features as large as 2x1x5 cm. The system should include a precision micro-positioning stage, automatic sample changer capable of accommodating samples as large as 25 mm diameter x 40 mm length, and software enabling volumetric reconstruction, 2D/3D quantitative analysis, surface rendering visualization, and creation of movies by volume rendering. The equipment should be delivered within six months of order receipt. The solicitation is being conducted by the Department of Commerce National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to support research examining the impacts of ocean acidification on marine calcifiers at its Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory.

ATTACHMENT 1 – TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

1305M323QNRMA0038

SCOPE OR MISSION: The vendor will supply a microCT instrument and associated software and will send a service engineer to install and calibrate the instrument at AOML.

BACKGROUND: NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program and Coral Reef Conservation Program provided grant funding to acquire a microCT to examine OA impacts on marine calcifiers. The following, related research will be possible with the purchase of a microCT:

a) resolving fine-scale erosion and dissolution in US coral communities that cannot be resolved by standard CT scanning,

b) examining calcification response/impact of OA on planktonic calcifiers,

c) examining the paleo-progression of OA in the Gulf of Mexico using foraminifera in sediment cores,

d) analyzing the archive of pteropods. This purchase will maintain a critical technical capability at AOML and contribute to the understanding of OA and its impacts.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

● High resolution desktop micro-CT system

● Micro-CT system warranty against defects in material or workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of installation

● PC workstation with system 3-year warranty

● Voxel resolution of at least 2.5 um for visualization of small features

● Capable of visualization features as large as 2x1x5 cm

● Precision micro-positioning stage

● Automatic sample changer capable of accommodating samples as large as 25 mm diameter x 40 mm length

● Software enabling volumetric reconstruction, 2D/ 3D quantitative analysis, surface rendering visualization, visualization and creation of movies by volume rendering

DELIVERY SCHEDULE: The equipment should be delivered six (6) months after receipt of order (ARO)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: None
