Pre-Bid Questions & RFI’s:

1. RIPRAP Suppliers: Spec Section 61 para 8 references the list of approved RIPRAP suppliers that is attached to the specifications. The list is dated April of 2000.

To obtain current local suppliers, it's recommended you use your preferred online search engine.

b. Will the USDA accept material from a quarry that is a state approved quarry?

Yes. We will accept any quarry that can provide certification of meeting our material specifications.

2. Grouted Rock RIPRAP: The section detail that is shown on the contract drawings states that the “grouted rock riprap shall be grouted to within 6” of the surface”.

a. Is the surface considered the top of the riverbank? Please clarify.

The note is referring to rock surface.

3. Campbell Loop Road Site 3 (Sheet 8): This drawing provides quantities for RIPRAP and Protective Cover.

a. If the stone dike is to be installed per the detail please provide the length, start / stop, of the required dike construction.

Item is addressed in plan notes on Sheet 8.

b. Will construction be one continuous dike, or will it be broken up into sections based on the washout locations?

Item is addressed in plan notes on Sheet 8.

c. Will excavation, clearing and grubbing or bank sloping be required at this location?

Work required on this site is identified on plans and Construction Spec 2.

d. Will offsite fill material be required?

Work required on this site is identified on plans

e. Is there an estimated quantity for protective cover for this site?

No.

f. Is there a specific access point for construction at this location?

No.

4. Forrest Street to McCleod Site (Sheet 9): The comments under the section detail on this drawing states to “Shape and Backfill all Side slopes”. Based on the section detail itself it looks like excavation is required to achieve the required slope.

a. Is it intended that the excavated material is to be used to achieve the required slope?

Item is addressed in construction spec 21.

b. The detail also depicts the grouted RIPRAP stopping at some point below the top of the bank. Is there a dimension for how far below the top of bank that the riprap should stop?

Item is addressed in plan notes on Sheet 9.

c. Is there a centerline or baseline that will be provided in order to determine the width of the construction?

Item is addressed in plan notes on Sheet 9.

d. Please provide the length, start / stop, of the riverbank reinforcement.

Item is addressed in plan notes on Sheet 9.

e. Will construction be continuous, or will it be broken up into sections based on the washout locations?

Item is addressed in plan notes on Sheet 9.

f. Does the existing chain link fence along the side of the bank require removal and reinstall, or will it need to be disposed of?

Item is addressed in construction spec 3.

g. Please provide grout detail for the RIPRAP to be installed.

Item is addressed on sheet 5 of plans.

5. On 4 of the 5 sites there is either RCP or A2000 pipe entering the construction area. Is the pipe to remain in place, be removed and replaced, or removed completely?

Plans will identify any handling of pipes.

6. Hi-Fi Crusin Site (Sheet 4): One the north end of the site there is a washout on both the

East and West sides of the river. More specifically, on the West side, it appears to have a large drainpipe that has been collapsed by broken concrete due erosion under the existing concrete slab.

a. Please provide clarification on what will be done with the drain pipe and broken concrete. Also, is contractor responsible for backfilling under the existing concrete slab?

Site is removed in modified design plans.

b. Is there a specific access point for construction at this location?

Site is removed in modified design plans.

7. Gordon’s Creek Site (Sheet 2):

a. Is there a specific access point for construction at this location?

• Grout will be placed across the creek bottom as stated in the description of work on sheet 9 - "protect with grouted riprap."

• Geotextile will be placed under all riprap as shown in the detailed typical cross sections on pages 3, 5, and 7.

c. Are the Geotextile and Concrete Grout quantities accurate for this site?

All quantities are estimated based on site conditions at the time of evaluation. Actual quantities may vary.

12. Campbell Loop Road Site (Sheet 8): It is called out to install a peak stone dike to correct the 5 wash outs depicted on the plan sheet.

a. The detail provided shows the stone Dike to be at a height of 6’, topped surface at 3’; but does not provide an overall with. Please provide more detail.

The average height of the dike is 6'. Since the existing ground varies, the overall width will vary depending on the ground elevation at any given point. This is covered in the notes on Sheet 8 "Alignment, limits and placement of peak stone dike shall be directed in the field by the COR."

b. This location is heavily covered with large trees within the work zone that are to be cleared. Will the Stone Dike begin at the top of the bank top, or the toe of the water?

The dike will begin near the toe of the slope. This is covered in the notes on Sheet 8 "Alignment, limits and placement of peak stone dike shall be directed in the field by the

We currently do not have permission to bury debris on the properties.

13. “In the specs, page 61-4 #8, it states that the rock riprap shall be delivered to the site and stored in a rock box. Can you clarify this for me? Stephens Construction would like to dump and then place the material as it's dumped. Would that be a problem?”

61-4 #8 States “Rock riprap shall be delivered to the site at the rate it is placed or shall be stored in a rock box.”

14. What if I have a rock supplier that is not on the listed provided Being on the list has nothing to do with a supplier’s eligibility. Any supplier who provides certification that their rock meets our quality/gradation standards is acceptable.
