* The objective is to create multiple clearcut patches within a stand of aspens and oaks to improve aspen regeneration while also improving wildlife habitat for the Northern Long Eared Bat by maintaining snags for roost trees.

* The contractor will submit a work plan including equipment, work sequence, and work schedule to the NRCS COR or

Representative a minimum of 3 days prior to work.

Two types of trees will be left standing, roost trees and regeneration trees. These trees will be marked by NRCS. Roost trees are canopy trees that are at least 12 inches in dbh and have loose bark or broken branches at or above the canopy level.

Regeneration trees will provide a seed source for natural regeneration. One regeneration tree per acre will be left uncut with a 65 ft. radius left uncut around these regeneration trees. NRCS will mark the 65 ft. radius. Stump height of cut trees must be

12" or less. The area outside of the 65 ft. radius will be clearcut, excluding any marked roost trees.

* Vehicles and equipment must be free of vegetative debris and seed upon arrival at the easement. The contractor must do everything possible to clean all vegetative debris and seed off of equipment and vehicles before moving to a different site. Vegetation and seed pieces should be removed, while paying special attention for plant debris on bumpers, radiators and underneath the vehicle.

* The primary work period will be December 1 - March 1. Work outside this window will require NRCS permission. Excessive snow cover will be removed to facilitate frozen soil depth if needed. Work will stop if rutting exceeds 3 inches in depth. Slash can be used to insulate logging trails, skid trails and landing. Heavy equipment such as harvester, tract loader, log skidder, skid steer or other suitable tree harvesting equipment will be used to cut trees and bring the cut stems to a landing. A semi‐ truck with a logging trailer will remove the cut stems from the site.

* The contractor is responsible for meeting all Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances relating to the work being performed including Minnesota's Forest Management Guidelines.

* Chopping slash will take place along with or immediately after forest stand improvement work is completed. Dozer with brush rake, grapple, or other suitable equipment to move or crush large stems and clear brush. Forestry mulcher, flail shredder, dozer with shearing, v-blade, or K-G blading or other equipment suitable for crushing slash will be used. Piles of crushed material will be less than 3 feet tall and aspen stumps will not be covered with crushed slash. The contractor is responsible for meeting all Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances relating to the work being performed including

Minnesota's Forest Management Guidelines. Work is considered successfully completed when piles of crushed material are less than 3 feet tall and aspen stumps are not covered with slash.

* Work is considered successfully completed when areas outside the NRCS marked areas are clearcut, with minimal site disturbance.

The objective is to remove the downed or damaged woody debris from a 2015 windstorm to encourage aspen regeneration.

The contractor will submit a work plan including equipment, work sequence, and work schedule to the NRCS COR or

Representative a minimum of 3 days prior to work. All attached stems will be cut from the stump. Cut stems and downed stems will be placed so that the stump is not covered with the stem or slash. Stems and slash may be windrowed for wildlife habitat or removed from the site. If windrowed a brush rake or similar equipment will be used to minimize pushing surface soil into the woody residue windrow. Windrows will not crowd live standing trees. Smaller stems, branches and tops will be bucked or lopped and scattered. Avoid covering the aspen stumps with the slash. Rutting from equipment will be avoided and work will stop if ruts reach 3 inches deep. Equipment may include track loader, chainsaws, log skidder, mechanical cutter or chopper or other equipment suitable for woody residue reduction, windrowing and/or removal.

*The contractor is responsible for meeting all Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances relating to the work being performed including Minnesota's Forest Management Guidelines.

*Work is considered successfully completed when all identified areas have treated downed woody debris area in the following manner; windrowed, bucked or lopped and scattered.
