PINECREST DAY USE AREA

SEWAGE SYSTEM REFURBISHMENT

SUMMARY:

This project is for the replacement, repair, and/or troubleshooting of components on three existing sewer lift stations, raising wet well and pipe vault lids, raising surrounding grades around two wet well and pipe vaults, and making modifications to an existing composting toilet building.

LOCATION:

Summit Ranger Station Pinecrest Day Use Area Pinecrest Reservoir East Shore #1 Pinecrest Lake Road Pinecrest, CA 95364

DIRECTIONS:

From the intersection of State Highways 49 (West Stockton Street) and 108 in Sonora CA, drive 28.9 miles east to the Summit Ranger Station.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Each facility can be shut down during that phase of the project. The project consists of four work items, each of these work items are detailed as follows:

WORK ITEM A: Reconstruct Trails Building Sewer Lift Station:

1. Pump out and remove all loose debris from existing wet well.

2. Remove existing pump, float switches, hardware, and control panel. Protect or replace existing underground wiring and piping leading into/out of existing wet well.

3. Thoroughly clean walls, floor, and seams of wet well.

4. Caulk all seams in wet well per Specification 07900.

5. Seal all walls and floors in wet well per Specification 07160.

6. Install new equipment to include 1 new grinder pump, float switches, and associated hardware in wet well per specification 02532.

7. Install new control panel per specification 02532 on building wall at existing location.

WORK ITEM B: Reconstruct Cedar Toilet Sewer Lift Station:

1. Pump out and remove all loose debris from existing wet well and valve vault.

2. Remove and inspect for possible replacement existing pumps, float switches, and associated hardware, save for reinstallation. Protect existing underground wiring and piping leading into/out of existing wet well and valve vault.

3. Remove existing reinforced concrete lids on wet well and valve vault. Protect lids/openings for reuse.

4. Thoroughly clean walls, floor, and seams of wet well and vault.

5. Place 18” reinforced concrete grade rings to match on top of existing 71 ½” diameter wet well and 58” diameter valve vault. Grout rings to top of existing structures. Reattach existing reinforced concrete lids/openings with grout.

6. Caulk all seams in wet well and valve vault per Specification 07900.

7. Seal all walls and floors in wet well and valve vault per Specification 07160.

8. Backfill grade rings with clean fill with a minimum level surface of 3’ around each lid except where noted below, slope to existing grade at 4:1. Ensure site drainage will go around raised area. 95% compaction required.

9. Construct 25’ long x 3’ wide Asphaltic Concrete swale between road and vaults.

10. Reinstall grinder pumps, float switches, and associated hardware in wet well per specification

02532. Install new guide rails that extend to new top elevation.

11. Inspect existing control panel for proper wiring and setup per manufacturer’s specifications.

Reconnect to lift station and verify correct operation.

WORK ITEM C: Reconstruct Dogwood Toilet Sewer Lift Station:

1. Pump out and remove all loose debris from existing wet well and valve vault.

2. Remove and inspect for possible replacement existing pumps, float switches, and associated hardware, save for reinstallation. Protect or replace existing underground wiring and piping leading into/out of existing wet well and valve vault.

3. Remove existing reinforced concrete lids on wet well and valve vault. Protect lids/openings for reuse.

4. Thoroughly clean walls, floor, and seams of wet well and vault

5. Place 18” reinforced concrete grade rings to match on top of existing 71 ½” diameter wet well and 58” diameter valve vault. Grout rings to top of existing structures. Reattach existing reinforced concrete lids/openings with grout.

10. Reinstall pumps, float switches, and associated hardware in wet well per specification 02532.

Install new guide rails that extend to new top elevation.

11. Inspect control panel for proper wiring and setup per manufacturer’s specifications. Reconnect to lift station and verify correct operation.

Borrow Source for work items B & C:

Fill material for work items B & C can be obtained from the Philadelphia Pit on Forest Route 4N13.

Contractor is responsible for developing borrow source and area clean up post haul.

NOTE: The East Shore Composting Toilet is only accessible on foot or by boat. There is a dock nearby for delivery of materials and transportation of workers. Tying up at the dock for more than ½ hour is not allowed. Boats can be beached at the inlet next to the dock for longer periods as needed. Pinecrest Lake begins lowering after Labor Day and the dock becomes inaccessible at some point after that.

WORK ITEM D: Modify East Shore Composting Toilet Building:

1. This is a design-build work item. Provide plans for all work 10 business days prior to commencement of work for approval by COR. Snow load for this elevation is 185 PSF, all work shall accommodate this requirement. Existing trusses can be reused if not compromised during reconstruction.

2. Rewire interior electrical as needed to accommodate Work Item D3. All work to match existing wiring.

3. Remove existing east wall with steel door, roof, and trusses. Side walls (north and south) to remain.

4. Reframe east wall to accommodate 8’ high steel doors, match existing width. Reattach existing exterior light. Frame pony wall as needed on top of existing side wall beams to accommodate roof extension.

5. Replace trusses and roof up to but not above existing windows. Flash and seal around PG&E primary electrical conduit at entry and exit points.

6. Install roof tiles to match (use existing if not broken). Match exterior siding and paint on new walls.

EAST SHORE

COMPOSTING TOILET

7. Install two 8’ high insulated exterior grade steel doors, reuse or match all hardware on existing doors, including keying locks the same.

8. Insulate interior of composting chamber room with R-19 insulation in the walls and R-30 insulation in the ceiling.

9. Place 3/8” AC plywood on interior walls and ceiling. Remove or cut plywood around all items attached to walls and ceiling to accommodate plywood installation. Reattach all removed items on new walls and ceiling in same location.

10. Install 1500 watt ceiling mounted forced air electric heater with mechanical temperature control setting (40° minimum) in composting room. Connect to electrical panel per manufacturer’s instructions. Unit to be installed on north (right) side of composting chamber, final location to be agreed to in the field.

11. Install EMC Water Eater Model 85E wastewater evaporator with stainless steel tank, Model 70SFP Self Priming Pump, and Model 20SDH hose assembly (or equivalent unit and accessories).

Unit to be installed on south (left) side of composting chamber, final location to be agreed to in the field. Connect to electrical panel per manufacturer’s instructions. Install 6” diameter vent stack through wall and extend to one foot below eve. Flash and seal vent penetration in wall.

Attach vent stack firmly to exterior of structure. .
