Statement of Work (SOW) Soldier Creek Boardwalk (Replacement) 05/28/2024
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Scope of Work:
Construction and commissioning into service a new Soldier Creek Boardwalk that replaces the old Soldier Creek Boardwalk destroyed in the Dixie Fire.
Goals: This project will replace the existing Solder Creek Boardwalk on the Pacific Crest Trail that was destroyed in the catastrophic Dixie Fire during the summer of 2021 at the existing site of the burned-out Boardwalk. Approximately 50% of the old boardwalk is partially burned and on site. The hikers must traverse Soldier Meadows Creek by crossing the stream in the water, the bottom of which is muddy and difficult to walk across. The remains of the old boardwalk are such that they cannot be used to traverse the creek. These remains litter the site with partially burned timbers to be removed with construction of the replacement boardwalk.
Objectives: Replacement of the existing structure by contract with a new standard boardwalk made of Timber as shown on drawings numbered STD 938-10-01, STD 928-10-2, STD 938-10-03 and STD 0933-50-01 as designed by the Forest Service. Clean up and removal of the existing remains of the burned boardwalk structure, and placement of the new boardwalk into service. Adequate construction warning signs will be established and maintained by the contractor during construction of the new boardwalk, as well as removal when the new boardwalk is commissioned into service.
2.0 Background: Our inspection records indicate that the Soldier Creek Boardwalk was originally built in 1978 and had not been otherwise rebuilt prior to the Dixie Fire. This project will repair by replacement the Soldier Meadow Boardwalk. The Boardwalk was in good condition and approximately 50% of the old boardwalk is partially burned and on site. Currently salvage logging is underway and clearing the burned forest adjacent to the meadow boardwalk site, the salvage logging work is currently in winter suspension and snow covers the site. It is our vision for the future to replace the boardwalk by contract with a new standard boardwalk as shown on drawings referenced above as designed by the Forest Service. Information technology is not a factor in accomplishing the goals of this project.
