About this file
This is a Data Item Description (DID) document DI-SESS-81001E for Conceptual Design Drawings/Models, approved on February 26, 2013. The DID provides format and content requirements for conceptual design drawings and models that define engineering design concepts used to reduce technical uncertainty regarding technology feasibility and design concepts' potential to meet requirements.
The document specifies that conceptual design drawings/models must follow MIL-STD-31000 standards and can be in either contractor or Government format as specified in the TDP Option Selection Worksheet. The drawings must document engineering design concepts in detail, demonstrate feasibility, and indicate potential for meeting stated requirements. Drawing types vary based on design complexity, with selection responsibility assigned via the Option Selection Worksheet. All drawings must be identified with either contractor or Government CAGE codes and document numbers as specified. This DID is primarily intended for use during concept demonstration/validation phases of DoD materiel life-cycle acquisitions and supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-81001D.
