The work involves performing Trail Opening and Routine Maintenance on select trails in the San Juan National Forest – Dolores Ranger District, which includes the following tasks that are further described below in section 3 – Performance Requirements and Specifications, and show in drawings STD-911-01 Clearing Limits, and STD-912-05 Rolling Grade Dip.

The trail tables 1.1 and 1.2 group the trails included in this contract into two categories by evaluating the estimated densities of down trees per mile, the number of estimated drainage features and the amount of past maintenance performed on the trail. This will allow the contractor to provide different rates for trails that may require different amounts of work. The assumptions made to group these trails are described in the trails tables and are based on records of past clearing efforts however these assumptions are included for reference only. It is not implied that the amount of work will not be significantly more or less in any given year. A maximum number of drainage features that the contractor will be required to maintain per trail has been listed in the trail tables and the contractor will not be responsible for maintaining features on a listed trail in excess of this quantity. If the contract is extended beyond the base year trails may be reassigned to a new trail table in consideration of wildfire, forest insect or disease infestation, or other such condition that substantially differs from the conditions as they existed during the base year of the contract.

These tasks shall be completed by the dates shown on Section 10- Performance Period, snow melt and other access conditions permitting.

All travel rules and regulations pertaining to the type of allowed uses on a specific trail segment must be followed by the contractor. Trails and roads open to motorized uses are shown on the most recent publication of the Dolores Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Maps available online here:

https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd493002.pdf All roads and trails not shown on these maps are closed to motorized travel. Use of motorized earthmoving equipment will not be authorized as part of this contract.
