Questions Received /Answers:
1. Number of braces don’t seem like enough?
Response – the number of braces is an estimate, and it is up to you to figure out how many are needed to do the fences per the lump sum amount.
2. Can they use drill stem vs wood posts for braces?
Response – yes, figure it in cost of materials and labor
3. Split rails vs whole rails for the corral?
Response – yes split rails can be used.
4. Off road permits and camping, is there a charge for those?
Response – no charge but no campgrounds or facilities like SSTs (outhouses)
5. Kind of maintenance needed?
Response – General maintenance like replacing a few posts, tightening the barbed wire, reclipping wire to steel, etc.
6. Clearing?
Response – should be cleared especially in the burned areas but the maintenance fences will not have a swath cleared. Some minimal clearing may be needed like brushing and small trees.
7. Can we go look at the fences?
Response – you can if you snow shoe or cross country ski but can NOT access with a pickup or snowmobile
8. I was wondering if we could use 2 7/8" Steel pipe for the uprights and bolt on bracing like we have in the past for all the other forest service projects.
Response - See updated Scope of Work (dated 14 March 2023) Section 2.01 Posts B and Section 2.01 Posts C and Section 2.02 Rails for Corrals
9. Also, how much forest clearing is to be expected?
Response – Major clearing is schedule to be completed prior to the commencement of this fencing contract. Minor clearing of brush and small trees/limbs should be expected.
10. Can the wood posts on the post and rail fence be drivers or are that dig and tamp the post in? Drivers are pointed posts and less labor intensive. Digging and tamping costs more in labor.
Response - See updated Scope of Work (dated 14 March 2023) Section 2.01 Posts B and Section 2.01 Posts C and Section 2.02 Rails for Corrals
11. And what happens if we exceed the number of estimated corners and braces?
Response - If additional braces are needed other than proposed, this will be handled on a case by case basis and should be immediately brought to the attention of the COR and Contracting Officer prior to installation above what was awarded on the contract.
