About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for RFQ 127EAX26Q0103 for the I Field Project at the USDA-ARS Northern Great Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory. The Q&A addresses five key contractor inquiries regarding project execution and site conditions.
The document clarifies critical project parameters: the completion date of February 28, 2027 is weather-dependent and may be adjusted if lead times from Mor Gran Sou and Missouri West Water are affected; trenching depth must be 7-8 feet (not the contractor's standard 6.5 feet); no known underground utilities have been identified, but the contractor is responsible for completing locates; rock-free excavated soil may be approved as bedding for water line backfilling, though additional sand or clay may be needed to return the trench to grade after compaction; and work must commence within 10 days of the Notice to Proceed, with this date negotiable with the awarded contractor. These responses establish baseline expectations for the underground water line installation component of the project, which involves approximately 1,475 feet of 1-inch polyethylene pipe along with associated valves, drainbacks, hardware, one frost-free 8-foot hydrant, and one double-bowl thermosink stock water fountain.

127EAX26Q0103 I Field Project Q&A #5
1. Completion date of 2-28-2027 may change if lead times with Mor Gran Sou and Missouri West Water are affected. Given that, does the remaining part of the project still need to be completed by that date?
A: Weather dependent to complete as such as the project as possible.
2. Trenching dept says 7-8 feet. We trench water at 6 1/2' Would that work?.
A: No
3. Are there any know lines or utilities that will need to crossed- or hydrovaced that are known about?
A: None known-but is the responsibility of the contractor to have locates completed.
4. Backfilling water line requires approved bedding. If the soil dug up is rock-free, will that be approved bedding or will sand or clay need to be hauled in??
A: If the soil is rock-free it will be approved. Fill may still be needed to return the trench back to grade after compaction.
5. Is there an anticipated start date?
A: Within 10 days of the NTP. This date will be negotiable with the awarded contractor.
