Amendment I - Nogales RD - Reverse Osmosis System Installaon
Quesons:
• What are the bonding requirements for the project? (Referring to you Michelle for this)
• Aer treatment of the mber members, is the wrapped polyethylene a permanent addion to the structure?
(Reference Superstructure and Substructure Treatment work item from SOW) o The wrap should be removed aer the treatment has cured aer applicaon of the preservave compound that is used. The preservave used must be approved for treatment prior to use.
• Will the new wearing surface be a replacement in kind to the exisng orientaon?
o No, the new wearing surface must be the full travel width of the bridge. The new mber wearing surface must consist of a series of rough-sawn mber planks placed edge to edge across the deck width. Planks must be 10- to 12-in wide, 2.5- to 3-in thick, a minimum of 8- long, and oriented in the direcon of traffic. (Reference Wearing Surface Replacement work item from SOW)
• The plans call out for geotechnical tesng, what is this needed for?
o The geotechnical tesng is needed for compacon densies of the subgrade, and base prior to asphalt placement. (Refer to project specificaons on requirements)
• How should the asphalt be joined with the bridge deck?
o This work item is under the Design and Work Items secon of the SOW for Roadway Bridge
Approaches; Asphalt Concrete Pavement and is the contractor’s responsibility to propose a joint or joining method to the bridge. A design must be submited as a submital for approval.
• Are we allowed to close the road for porons of the project?
o Yes to an extent. However, this is public road so we do not want to keep the road closed for long periods of me. Coordinate with the CO and COR for closures so we can nofy the district for public releases.
• I was looking through the bid documents and it menoned dewatering. I was curious if you had any more informaon on this project/situaon. I know somemes it’s just as precauonary line/special provisions but wasn’t able to find if there will be any need for it/bypass pumping. If you could provide me with a litle more insight into this or point me in the right direcon.
o We do not expect dewatering to occur for the enre stream due to the nature of placing rock rip rap for abutment/channel protecon. One of the upstream abutments does have scour/undermining so a correcve design must be implemented which depending on the design may require paral dewatering for that segment. Also, since the project does involve some channel work the USACE permit will be necessary prior to implementaon.
