Responses to Questions 127EAX21R0010 Demolition and Sitework Schoolhouse Recreation Area, Ocotillo Campground and Saguaro Del Norte Recreation

1. Can an asbestos report be provided?

The contractor will have to do that as part of the contract under NESHAP permit

2. Are there any scheduling requirements associated with this project?

The demolition will be coordinated with the installation contract so that service isn’t interrupted too much.

3. Objective II states septic tanks are to be pumped and filled with sand at each building, however objective I states to demo and remove all vaults? Please clarify the intent here.

We have a mixture of vault toilets and toilets with septic tanks. Vaults must be removed. For the flushing toilets at Schoolhouse the tanks can be removed if not in asphalt. But if they are in asphalt they shall be filled with sand.

4. Please confirm that at the Ocotillo location the intent is to remove and replace the toilets not demo buildings?

The intent is to remove the toilet buildings and vaults and backfill the void. New building will be placed nearby but may not be in exact location.

5. Are there any as builts that for the buildings to be demolished?

No as-builts

6. What are the capacities of the existing underground septic tanks? Are they precast or poured?

Septic tanks are precast/ or fiberglass. We don’t have the capacities available.

7. Are there any existing leach field associated with the septic tanks?

Yes. The leach fields will be capped and abandoned in place.

8. To what extent are the concrete sidewalks being removed?

Enough to be able to remove the buildings. Pre-con meetings will line out extents but intent is to keep it to a minimum.

9. Please confirm that the new toilet construction is part of separate contract? If yes, are the concrete sidewalks to part of that contract or is the expectation that winning contractor will go back after new restroom building is in place?

Yes the toilet installation/construction is part of a separate contract. Per the solicitation the concrete sidewalk is part of this contract and you will need to come back afterwards to help with any dirt spoils left over as well as setting the sidewalk to match to the access points of the building.

10. If vaults are to be removed and holes left open will USFS be providing fencing until new restroom is completed?

The plan is to back fill the holes if we are not placing the new vault in the same place. However the holes could be left open and the contractor will need to fence it off until the installation contractor arrives.

This is why the schedule will be coordinated to minimize the time the hole is open.

11. Will we be able to drive the excavator from location to location on asphalt ?

Responses to Questions 127EAX21R0010 Demolition and Sitework Schoolhouse Recreation Area, Ocotillo Campground and Saguaro Del Norte Recreation If the excavator has tracks then no it can’t drive from one site to another. The entire site will need to be closed for the work to occur though so not traffic control will be needed. We typically see backhoes doing this work with a pneumatic hammer on the end.

12. Will traffic control be required? If so, what cones signage, flagger, close rd?

Each site will depend. The plan is to close Saguaro Del Norte during this project. Schoolhouse probably will be closed as well. The other remote ones will depend.

13. If new concrete sidewalks are to be poured as part of this contract please confirm how much at each location Remove enough to be able to remove the buildings. Pre-con meetings will line out extents of new concrete but intent is to keep it to a minimum. So no exact quantity.
